ABOUT ME
Duncan's life story is one of resilience, growth, and transformation. He has faced and conquered numerous intricate challenges and traumas throughout his journey. These experiences have shaped him into a survivor who is not only determined to thrive but also to help others in their healing journeys. As a father, friend, and advocate, Duncan's multifaceted identity is a testament to his commitment to personal growth and supporting others.
He is passionate about guiding others towards discovering this inner power and using it to foster their personal growth. One of the modalities that has deeply resonated with him is the Internal Family Systems (IFS) approach. Through this, he has found a way to connect with his authentic self, a part of him characterized by compassion, empathy, and love. Completing the IFS Foundations course has equipped him with tools to navigate the complex landscape of internal emotions and feelings.
Duncan recognizes the significance of creating a safe and nurturing internal environment. By cultivating an atmosphere of love and acceptance within oneself, profound healing can occur. This healing extends to a variety of areas, such as overcoming addictions, managing trauma triggers, relinquishing self-destructive behaviors, alleviating anxiety and stress, and breaking free from life stagnation.
Duncan's empathy and understanding extend to his two daughters, who belong to the LGBTQIA community. His personal connection to their struggles in the modern world has deepened his resolve to advocate for love and combat all forms of institutional and systemic oppression. This commitment to justice and equality further underscores his dedication to promoting healing and growth in all aspects of life.
Pursuing a Master's Degree at Northwestern University is a realization of Duncan's aspirations. The strength and determination he has harnessed through his journey of discovering internal freedom have empowered him to surmount obstacles and reach for his dreams. His chosen path focuses on cultivating internal tranquility through practices like breathwork and meditation. By forging a connection with his authentic self, Duncan has created a nurturing environment that enables him to embrace self-love, self-acceptance, and a fresh perspective on transforming ingrained thought patterns.
Duncan firmly believes in the importance of authenticity, empathy, connection, and trust. These qualities form the foundation of his approach in the realm of therapy. By embodying these principles, he aims to establish a therapeutic relationship that maximizes its effectiveness and fosters meaningful change in the lives of those he works with.
Throughout Duncan’s internship, Duncan’s professional growth and clinical practice have been under the direct supervision and guidance of Kayley Harrington, a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) She/Her.
