ABOUT ME
Kate is a Clinical Mental Health Counseling Intern currently enrolled in remote studies at Northwestern University. While she is pursuing a career in counseling, her educational background initially focused on Environmental Justice, which sparked her passion for working with communities that are disproportionately affected by unjust systems, including environmental racism and food insecurity. Kate has prior experience working in community behavioral health and engaging with individuals who are currently or have recently experienced homelessness, although her role was non-clinical at the time. Her aim now is to continue working with populations that have historically faced barriers to accessing affirming and empowering mental health care.
Kate combines elements of Psychodynamic therapy, Person-Centered therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Narrative Therapy. She believes in the importance of providing a safe and affirming space for her clients, particularly those who belong to marginalized communities, including her own LGBTQIA+ community. Kate recognizes the significance of creating an environment where individuals can explore and understand their identity without fear of judgment. She approaches each client with unconditional acceptance and a genuine desire to witness and celebrate their authentic selves. Collaboration is a central aspect of her approach, as she encourages clients to take an active role in understanding their unique experiences. She also provides support and facilitation in exploring the subconscious elements those impact clients' lives.
Kate personally incorporates yoga, meditation, and breathwork into her routine and maintains a dedicated practice. Her passion for music and writing also informs her counseling practice, as she believes in the power of integrating physical and creative practices alongside talk therapy to enhance overall well-being.
Throughout her internship, Her professional growth and clinical practice have been under the direct supervision and guidance of Kayley Harrington, LICSW, She/Her.
